We provide free legal advice and resources if you can’t afford a lawyer

What Kind Of Legal Help Do You Need?

Eligibility: You may qualify for help from ELAP if you live in King County and are low income. ELAP does not provide legal help with criminal cases, removal/deportation, or accidents/injury cases.

ELAP provides free interpretation services.

What We Do: We provide free legal help at our regular legal clinics on issues like bankruptcy, student loans, unfair debt collection, student loan debt, and credit card debt.

Eligibility: You must live in King County and have an income that is less than 200% of the federal poverty level for your household size. (A household of three that makes less than $3,600/month qualifies.)

What We Do: We provide free legal help at our regular legal clinics on issues like workplace and housing discrimination, as well as legal advice for people who’ve been discriminated against because of their disability, race, gender, sexual orientation, housing status, language, medical condition, or country of origin.  

Eligibility: You must live in King County and have an income that is less than 200% of the federal poverty level for your household size. (A household of three that makes less than $3,600/month qualifies.)

What We Do: Our staff attorneys provide legal services to domestic violence survivors who have been referred to us by another agency or nonprofit service provider. The ways we help include providing legal advice, helping you obtain a protection order, supporting you during the court process, referring you to additional services, and representing you in court. 

In our free monthly legal clinics, we also help draft protection orders and provide one-time legal advice on divorce, custody issues, and parenting plans.

Eligibility: You must live in King County or have a case in King County 

To Get Help: For legal help with our staff attorneys, you must receive a referral from a domestic violence program or other service provider, for example DAWN, New Beginnings, or LifeWire. We do not accept self-referrals for these services.

What We Do: We provide legal help for issues affecting patients’ health at the following medical clinics: International Community Health Services (ICHS) in Bellevue and Shoreline; and HealthPoint in Auburn, Federal Way, Kent, Des Moines, and Redmond. 

Eligibility: You must live in King County and be a patient of ICHS and HealthPoint in participating clinic locations.    

To Get Help: Please ask your doctor, nurse, social worker, or other medical professional for a referral to ELAP.

HOUSING INTAKES OPEN ONLY FOR KIRKLAND

What We Do: Our staff attorneys provide legal services to people facing eviction, having a legal issue with their landlord, experiencing domestic violence, being discriminated against, or having another civil legal issue that is affecting their ability to pay rent. We also help with repairs, security deposit returns, retaliation, and reasonable accommodations.

In our free monthly legal clinics, we also provide one-time legal advice on issues related to housing.

Eligibility: You must live in King County and have an income that is less than 200% of the federal poverty level for your household size. (A household of three that makes less than $3,600/month qualifies.)

What We Do: We provide free legal help at our regular legal clinics on issues like petitions, applications for adjustment of status or citizenship, and general immigration legal questions. We do not represent clients in deportation cases or removal hearings. 

Eligibility: You must live in King County and have an income that is less than 200% of the federal poverty level for your household size. (A household of three that makes less than $3,600/month qualifies.)

What We Do: We provide free legal help at our regular legal clinics on issues related to getting, keeping, and using government benefits and public assistance such as Veterans benefits, Social Security, SNAP (food stamps), TANF (assistance for needy families), WIC (food support for women, infants, and children), Medicaid, and Medicare 

Eligibility: You must live in King County and have an income that is less than 200% of the federal poverty level for your household size. (A household of three that makes less than $3,600/month qualifies.)

What We Do: We provide free legal help at our wills legal clinics drafting legal documents like a will, Advance Directive, Power of Attorney, and Special Needs Trusts. 

Eligibility: You must live in King County and have an income that is less than 400% of the federal poverty level for your household size. (A household of three that makes less than $7,200/month qualifies.)
